Humility

Image
Hello all you beautiful Grandchildren, It is time I talked about how important it is for my grandchildren to have humility it should be an important part of each of your lives. Again, you will hear various views of the definition of being humble (or to have humility) so here is Grandpa's view Meaning: Humility is  freedom from pride or arrogance.  Freedom, pride, and arrogance are three more characteristics that I need to share with you some day, but today is not that day. Your parents may need to spend a little time explaining those to you, but you might learn a little about them by continuing to read this. Let me explain some basics of humility that I started to gather through AI, but ended up changing to my way of thinking. Special Note : It is best if you can learn humility on your own without being forced to become humble. More about that in the first example below. Lack of Arrogance : Humility means not boasting about yourself, or feeling that you are better than other p...

Gratitude

Image
Hello again to all my Grandchildren, I have been having feelings of gratitude lately, so because it was on my mind, and because I haven't shared about gratitude yet, I feel to do so now. Meaning: Gratitude , by my definition is:  to give thanks and to show appreciation.   The attitude of gratitude! (it should be a good attitude by the way) I feel like gratitude is a piece of all of the characteristics I write about. Thus, gratitude is another very important characteristic to acquire in each of your lives. Here are some of the reasons why I believe being thankful (or, gratitude) is important in your life and how having an "attitude of gratitude" can help you be a better person here on this earth. Characteristics of Gratitude It's kind to do   - When you say "thank you" for something that someone gives you, or for something they have done for you, you are being kind. Not only is it being kind, but it also shows the other person that you appreciate their act or...

Accountability

Image
Hello again Grandchildren! This month I have decided to talk about the character trait of "Accountability". This trait is a little hard to describe so I will be using a few examples to help you understand what I think accountability means. First I will put in the definition below - and we will go from there. Accountability Defined - According to Grandpa Accountability is:   "An obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to account for one's actions, including your words and your thoughts." I believe being accountable is a great character trait to have in your life. It is not always easy to  take full responsibility for your thoughts, words, and actions, but it is always the right thing to do. The best path of accountability is to be "willing" to be accountable. You are normally not forced by someone else to be accountable. You want to be the type of person who willingly accepts full responsibility for your thoughts, words, and actions. This ...

Courage

Image
Well, here we are again. This month, Grandpa is going to focus on the character trait called "courage". Courage is a very worthwhile trait to have. Here are a few definitions of courage that I like. "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty" We also use the word "Brave" (like Easton's middle name) when we speak of courage. We often say, "they are a very courageous person", or "what you are doing is very brave". We also speak of a specific act, like a "one-time event" as being a courageous act.  I would like to share with you a few short examples of what I think courage looks like. Later, I will give you the bigger examples of courage and bravery I have seen in my life, or the lives of others. Grandpa's short examples of what is a courageous act or person. When a person does not want to do something because they are afraid, yet they decide to do it anyway. When a person ...

Choices

Image
Hello Grandchildren, Today's character trait I would like to talk about is making "choices". A choice is " an act of making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities." You make hundreds of decisions each day without thinking much about them. I want to talk about making choices and the importance of how choosing wisely can play in your life. Grandpa's viewpoint We talked about "character" last month. How you make choices and ultimately the choices you do make will tell you, and others, what type of person or what kind of character you have. (More about this later). 1. Some choices you make are more important to consider than other choices. Easier and/or Smaller Choices What should I have for breakfast is normally considered an easier choice, but it could become hard depending on the situation. Is it a special day today? (hard choice maybe?) Is someone going to make breakfast for me or do I need to make it for myself? I eat cocoa puffs e...

Character

Image
Well Grandchildren, I want to talk about "Character". This may be a little confusing since the title of my Blog is "Wholesome Character Traits". Hopefully your parents can explain it to you satisfactorily. Basically, I am saying that "Character" is a Character Trait :). The type of character I am focusing on describes the type of person you are. There are different elements or traits (a distinguishing quality or characteristic) associated with a person's character or personality. Character Defined - According to Grandpa Character is:   "The way someone thinks, talks, acts, and lives will tell you about a person's character." To me, this defines a person's character. It shows everyone, including themselves, who they are. I am also defining what I believe to be "Good Character Traits" and "Bad Character Traits" a person can have or acquire. I am not going to talk about genetic character traits, just character traits ...
